What Is A Bail Bondsman?

According to Wikipedia a bail bondsman, bail bond agent or bond dealer is any person, agency or corporation that will act as a surety and pledge money or property as bail for the appearance of a defendant in court.

What is a Transfer Bond?

If you have been arrested and are in jail in a different location then where your your bond is being placed this is called a transfer bond. If you have been arrested outside the state of Florida, your family or friends can go to a Florida bail bond office of their choice and pay the bond for your release. The bond will be transferred to the location where the defendant is being held.

How Do Bail Bonds Work?

A bail bondsman in the state of Florida must operate under the laws and regulations set by the state of Florida. Once a person is arrested they are taken to jail for processing. The processing time can be anywhere from 1 to 3 hours in length.

After this initial processing, defendants have an option to either bond out of jail or stay in jail. If the defendant opts to bond from jail they can choose to pay the bond in full or rely on the expertise of a bail bondsman to get released from jail.

When you post a bond with a Florida bail bondsman you will be charged a percentage of the total amount. The fees are set by the state and any bond that is $1,000.00 or less will cost $100.00 and any amount above that will be 10% of the total bond.

If you have been arrested for more than one charge then you may be facing multiple bonds. Multiple bonds are fairly common in the state of Florida.
